Derek Detring, President

Derek’s career has been fully devoted to energy advisory, where he has completed over $7.5 billion in capital raising and M&A advisory transactions. Derek spent the first four years of his career at Merrill Lynch, where he primarily focused on capital raising and M&A assignments for large, publicly-listed companies, followed by four years at Integral Advisors, a boutique A&D advisory firm he co-founded in 2009. Most recently, Derek served within Wells Fargo’s A&D group, where he helped package, market and close several transactions.

Derek graduated summa cum laude and first in his engineering class from Vanderbilt University and attended the Wharton Executive Education Program, where he passed with honors.

Melinda Faust, Director

Melinda joined Detring Energy Advisors as a Director in May 2016. Formerly, Ms. Faust was a Director at Lantana Energy Advisors where she was actively involved in sourcing and executing transactions across the small and mid-cap A&D space. Melinda is the Founder and President of ADAM-Houston, ADAM-Permian and ADAM-Rockies A&D networking organizations (Acquisitions, Divestitures And Mergers), which host a combined membership of over 700 senior-level professionals.

Ms. Faust began her career in the oil and gas industry in 1998 at a small offshore independent and has since spent time at then start-up DrillingInfo, Noble Royalties, Lantana Energy Advisors and finally her advisory role at Detring.

Ms. Faust holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of New Orleans and is actively involved in multiple industry organizations, including the ADAM groups, Independent Petroleum Association of America, Houston Producers Forum and Small Steps Energy Classic.

Matt Loewenstein, Vice President

Matt has devoted his entire career to providing energy advisory services to upstream oil and gas companies, focusing primarily on the evaluation and execution of A&D and M&A transactions. Prior to joining Detring Energy Advisors in April 2016, Matt served as an Associate and Analyst in the Upstream Investment Banking group at Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., where he completed over $10 billion in aggregate transaction volume.

Matt graduated cum laude from Colgate University where he received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Geology and Economics.

Richard Ball, Vice President

Richard is a Certified Petroleum Geologist who worked both conventional and unconventional reservoirs with Chevron USA over the entirety of his 10 year career, including onshore US, Gulf of Mexico Shelf/Deep Water, and West Africa Shelf. Currently, Richard serves the AAPG as General Chair for the 100th Anniversary Annual Convention and a Division of Professional Affairs (DPA) Councilor. Mr. Ball is a proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where he earned his B.S. (2005) and M.S. (2007), respectively.

Jonathan Bristal, Associate

Jonathan brings an additional 7 years of experience in A&D and reserves evaluation to the team. Prior to joining Detring, he was an Associate with Wells Fargo Securities A&D where he helped value and close multi-billion dollar deals for a total of over $8 billion in aggregate transaction value. Jonathan began his career as an independent consultant, offering drop-in technical services for a wide range of clients – including small to mid-size E&P companies, third-party consulting firms, and investment banks

Kyle Vesevick, Analyst

Kyle joined Detring Energy Advisors in June 2017 as an Analyst. He provides support across the firm’s full range of energy advisory services. Prior to joining Detring Energy Advisors, Kyle served as a Project Engineer with ExxonMobil Development Company. In this role, he supported major capital projects around the world, focusing on deepwater Gulf of Mexico and both onshore and offshore West Africa.

Kyle graduated magna cum laude from the University of Michigan where he received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

Sean Kimiagar, Analyst

Sean is a Geologist with experience working on conventional and unconventional reservoirs domestically in the United States and internationally, including projects in offshore Brazil, Australia, Utica, Marcellus and Gulf of Mexico. Prior to joining Detring Energy Advisors, Sean has worked for BHP Billiton Petroleum, Halliburton and C&C Reservoirs, where he held a number of technical and Business Development positions. Sean received his Masters degree in Petroleum Geology from University of Texas at Arlington, and is an active member of AAPG and Houston Geological Society.

Anthony Rojas, Analyst

Anthony joined Detring Energy Advisors in February 2017. He serves as an analyst providing support across the firm’s full range of energy advisory services. Prior to joining Detring Energy Advisors, Anthony was an analyst at PLS, Inc. for six years, focusing on small-cap A&D transactions, research & publications and management of the M&A database.

Paul Ngo, Analyst

Paul joined Detring Energy Advisors in June 2018. He serves as an analyst providing support across the firm’s full range of energy advisory services. Prior to joining Detring Energy Advisors, Paul served as a financial analyst at Black Stone Minerals, focusing on strategic planning, credit redetermination, and mineral acquisitions. Paul holds a B.B.A. in Finance with an Energy Track from the University of Texas at Austin.
